Where does the term ''aromatherapy'' comes from?
The term "aromatherapy" first originated in French in 1937 when chemist Gattefosse invented the word after a burn incident spurred his curiosity about the healing power of essential oils.
On the heels of Gattefosse's "discovery" that lavender oil helped to cure his burn, French surgeon Jean Valnet used essential oils to help heal soldiers' wounds in World War II, proving the medical benefits of aromatherapy. The proof of the fact that aromatherapy could heal wounds was only the beginning.
How Aromatherapy Works?
Aromatherapy activates areas in your nose called smell receptors, which send messages through your nervous system to your brain. The oils may activate certain areas of your brain, like your limbic system, which plays a role in your emotions.
They could also have an impact on your hypothalamus, which may respond to the oil by creating feel-good brain chemicals like serotonin.
Aromatherapy is usually used through inhalation or as a topical application.

What really happens inside our body?
Molecules of the essential oils enter the nose or mouth pass to the lungs, and from there, to other parts of the body.
